Blackburn College 24-25 Feb 2018 We are currently in the process of planning a symposium on The Talbot Archive and are looking for ideas of people that would be interested in attending the event. It will be held over the weekend of 24/25 of February 2018; approximate times will be 10.00 – 16.00. This will take place in the University Centre at Blackburn College. There will be more than 60 prints from the archive on display and will be the focal point of the symposium. We plan to hold presentations throughout the day examining the technical, social and historic aspects of this amazing body of work. There will be special guests on both days, including Howard Talbot and Prof Paul Hill MBE, FRPs. This will be a great opportunity to discuss the work. There will also be demonstrations held in the University Darkroom and studio. There is no charge for the symposium and attendance is by invitation. I would like to invite you and your members to this event. Full details will be forwarded nearer to the event. If you could let me know if this that would be of interest to you I would be grateful. Wally Talbot and his son Howard were Blackburn based photographers working in the areas of Press, Sport and Commercial photography from the 1930s through to the 1990s. The photographs here were taken mainly between 1935 and 1995 responding to daily assignments in Blackburn & Darwen and its locality. Staff and students working on the BA (Hons) Photography at The University Centre at Blackburn College, in partnership with the Talbot family and Blackburn Library have been digitally archiving thousands of the Talbots photographs to preserve this essential piece of Blackburn & Darwen social history. The images show a level of dedication and technical skill that is extraordinary. The photography of Wally and Howard Talbot deserves to be enjoyed by the people of Blackburn & Darwen now and for many years to come. Kind Regards Peter Graham University Centre Blackburn College.
