Friends of Pendle Heritage - History of the Norse Vikings

Peter Marsden is coming to talk at Pendle Heritage Centre on Thursday 28th September at 7 30pm.

He is a local lad and is coming up from his home in the south to speak on the history of the Norse Vikings and their settlement in Lancashire and Yorkshire and the DNA link to these people in particular through the family of Marsden and Morley.

If any of your members have these names in their family tree they may be very interested in this talk.

It will be in the barn at PHC, for about an hour with questions to follow and then tea and biscuits.

Members fee £2 50, Non members £4 00.

The History of Lancashire in 70 objects project will mark the 70th anniversary of the Lancashire Life magazine. It has been curated by the people of Lancashire with their chosen objects displayed in various public spaces across the county.

The History of Lancashire in 70 Objects is funded by the HLF and is a partnership between Lancashire Heritage learning, Museum Development North West and Lancashire Life.
It aims to engage communities across the County Palatine with objects and stories held in their local museums, galleries and heritage venues. It also aims to engage with new audiences and promote visits across all participating venues.

LFHHS Fylde Branch Meeting

After all the heritage visits, are you thinking about your own family tree.

This Wednesday 13th September, we have a special one off meeting. 800 years of one family, followed by a workshop.

We have a branch laptop containing a great deal of information plus a lot of resource material available, which it has not yet been possible to save electronically. Size, time being main problems. This is something we are looking at. We will be adding information about this on our website and on the files section.

We are giving away free Ancestry charts, how to record your tree on a family history programme on computer. Data CDs and Who Do You Think You Are and other Family History magazines, these are full of helpful hints and ideas.

As a member you have access to the CD, fiche, book libraries, which are free for you to borrow. Lancashire 1841-1901 census CDs to view at home, no need for internet access.

Bring your queries and your laptop or other device, there is wifi available.

If you cannot attend, feel free to contact us at Fylde Branch with your problem, we will try to help you find the answer. Speaking to other like minded people often helps you break down a brick wall

Lancashire Archives on the Road

An archivist will be out and about in local libraries to talk about Lancashire Archives and to offer help and advice.

The events ares free, no ticket required.

The events are at:-

Burnley Library Thursday, 14 September 2017
Morecambe Library Friday 27 October 2017,
Rawtenstall Library Thursday 23 Nov 2017 and
Harris Library Preston Wednesdays 29 November 2017.

All sessions run from 2.00pm to 3.00pm.
