CHORLEY BRANCH Press Release
Remember 1973?
Was 1973 a memorable year for you? Did you win any prizes or play an important part in any Chorley event? If so, the Chorley Branch of the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society would like to hear from you ahead of its annual Celebration of Family History at Astley Hall and Coach House on Saturday August 3rd. Open to all and free of charge, the event is always popular.
This year, the Lancashire Family and History Society, the Chorley Branch’s parent group, is 40 years old. Local branches of the 3000 strong Society have been asked to think of different ways to mark its 40th birthday. With your help, the Chorley Branch hopes to give August’s Celebration of Family History a 1970s theme.
Were you were born in Chorley in 1973? Do you have a baby picture of yourself and a photograph taken recently? Could you help by sending the Chorley Branch copies? With your permission, these would be displayed at the Celebration. A few details about how your life has changed since 1973 would be interesting too.
Were you married in Chorley in 1973? Where was your wedding held? Did any especially happy, difficult, sad or funny things happen on the day? Get in touch and pass on your stories!
Ruth Holcroft, who used to own “Bridal Elite” in Chorley, will be lending the Celebration of Family History a 1970s style wedding dress for display. Ruth, a skilled needlewoman, sewed superb costumes for use at Astley Hall. She also made many beautiful dresses for weddings and other special occasions. These included the 1988 Miss Great Britain competition when local contestant Gillian Bell won in a dress created by Ruth. Did Ruth make a dress for you?
If you have 1970s film transferred to DVD, or photographs of Chorley events in 1973, the Chorley Branch of the LFHHS, and Chorley’s Heritage Group would like to hear from you. Please get in touch with the organisers of this year’s Celebration of Family History by phoning 07730793990, or by emailing your photographs and a few details about any of the above to [email protected] .
The LFHHS Chorley Branch meets at 7.30 p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Chorley Library. It also runs the LFHHS Chorley Research Centre at Astley Hall Farmhouse, open on Mondays, Fridays and some Saturdays.
